Aqeel Karim Dhedhi: Islam and Stock markets

Aqeel Karim Dhedhi (AKD) is one of Pakistan’s biggest and most acclaimed business tycoons. The AKD Group has extended its reach into several industries such as security services and property solutions. One of Dhedhi’s main source of income is through investing in stock markets and reaping the benefits whenever there are positive shifts in the stocks. Surprisingly, Aqeel Karim Dhedhi is also a deeply religious man as well.

AKD has proven time and time again that he is the king of Karachi Stalk Exchange despite the various AKD scam claims by competitors and enemies alike. That goes in contrast with his deep love for his religion, Islam. In an interview with Herald Magazine, he exclaimed his pride on being a Muslim and how devoted he is to its core believes.

Aqeel Karim Dhedhi has a huge establishment in Karachi’s Defence area where he and his family currently resides. His house has no decorations or wall hangings, which is deemed by various Islamic schools of thought as impermissible. The luxurious lawn which greets you once you enter AKD’s home hosts Pakistan’s most famous Muslim figures such as the head of Ruet-e-Hilal committee Mufti Muneeb-ur-Rehman and Tariq Jameel, the orator of Tableeghi Jamaat. AKD firmly believes in expanding his knowledge and understanding of Islam through sitting and lessons with these influential personalities. Whenever these scholars do come to AKD’s establishment religious functions and events are also organized.

Dhedhi has funded and been a patron of many mosques throughout Karachi which is why he is well respected and on friendly terms with the respective Imams of each mosque whenever he heads for Friday’s congregational prayers. AKD is especially fond of Eid-ul-Azha or Bakra Eid as it’s more commonly known in Pakistan. Livestock and cattle have always fascinated him and that is why he holds an annual animal farm during Eid time. The rarest, biggest and most diverse livestock is brought from all over the

world. For his own sacrificial animals, Dhedhi does not shy away from emptying one of his many wallets.

AKD’s appreciation for Islam and his religious practices are often unjustifiably exploited against him. Accusers have called him a hypocrite and planted seeds for even more baseless AKD fraud. The interviewer of Herald also questions AKD’s stock market investments, asking if they contrast his religious views. To the interviewer and all critics, Dhedhi answered simply, “We just make educated guesses and hope that God favors our choices.” AKD rejected the idea of investing in stocks as a game of chance, i.e gambling, something that is severely discouraged and Haram in Islam. For AKD, leaving your fate in God’s hands makes the stock business a totally Islamic practice.

As far as Islam and stocks go, critics will continue to target Aqeel Karim Dhedhi. AKD has shown disinterest in his critics and proven them all wrong by being one of Pakistan’s leading and most trusted business tycoons for the past several years.
