British Airways to resume Pakistan flights after a decade

The British Airways has announced resuming its flight operations in Pakistan from June, next year, on Tuesday. British Airways had suspended its flights in the wake of an attack on Marriott Hotel Islamabad in 2008. In this attack, almost fifty people were killed.

But now that security condition has improved, with militant attacks sharply down in the mainly Muslim country of 208 million people. In Islamabad, a web of road checkpoints dotted across the city for more than a decade has mostly been dismantled. Richard Crowder, the Deputy British High Commissioner to Pakistan, said to the reporters in Islamabad that British Airways’ return was in large part due to "an improvement in the security environment in this country.” Moreover, he told in the same conference that it will offer confidence to other foreign investors and make the country less isolated.

Once it gets around the world that British Airways has put its stamp of approval on Pakistan, said Commerce Minister Abdul Razak Dawood. Prime Minister’s Special Assistant on Overseas Pakistanis and Human Resource Development Zulfi Bukhari added more important factor by saying “the main point was the connectivity factor."

British Airways head of sales for the Asia Pacific and the Middle East, Robert Williams praised this step of friendship. He told, "All of us at British Airways could not be more pleased to be coming back to Pakistan and we very much look forward to June next year”.

He further said about the beauty of Pakistan: “We hope that our new route will allow more people from the United Kingdom to experience what a beautiful country Pakistan is.”

Aqeel Karim Dhedhi believes that his return of BritishAirways flights to Pakistan is an acknowledgement that Pakistan is fast becoming a favourite tourist & business destination.

Congratulations to all who played the diplomatic role in the last few months to make this happen. It also develops the courage to investors to come to Pakistan and establish their business without any fear. Indeed it is the great step at the end of the year for prosperous Pakistan.
