Overseas Pakistanis can now cast their votes in by-polls

After the General Elections 2018 was over, the discussion regarding allowing overseas Pakistanis to cast their votes in the electoral process caught limelight.

Both on social media mediums such as Facebook and Twitter and on Television channels, the general public and senior journalists and influential people called for a system to be designed to help Pakistanis living abroad cast their votes.

NADRA Chairperson Usman Mobin said that he is not sure if the system will be used in upcoming by-polls but the system is ready for use and Election Commission of Pakistan has been briefed about the functionality of the system.

It was on August 17th that the Election Commission of Pakistan announced that overseas Pakistanis will be allowed to vote in upcoming by-polls and future general elections.

The Supreme Court of Pakistan has made it clear that the votes will not be counted if there are any doubts. However, Usman Mobin stated that the system is functioning properly and it can be used in the upcoming by-polls.

This is a great positive development in the electoral process since tens of hundreds of Pakistanis living abroad in countries such as Canada, the United States, the United Kingdom and other countries can now make their votes count.
