Pakistani Athletes Bring Home 61 Medals From Special Olympics World Summer Games 2019

An event for the athletes with intellectual disabilities, Special Olympics 2019 was held earlier this year in March in Abu Dhabi. More than 7000 athletes participated from over 190 countries in 24 sports.

A total of 92 athletes participated from Pakistan and brought home a total of 61 medals. By winning 18 Gold, 28 Silver and 15 Bronze medals, the nation couldn't be any prouder. These special athletes have won the hearts of the entire nation and have given competition to our athletes that will be participating in World Olympics 2020 that will take place in Tokyo, Japan. The bar has been raised by them and the image of Pakistan has improved tremendously. These sports encourage physical fitness and health among young and old with disabilities, give them the courage to move past their disabilities and focus more on making most of their abilities which leads to a sense of accomplishment in them. In Lahore, January 27, 2018, Director Sports Muhammad Anees Sheikh inaugurated Special Olympics National Games 2018 at Nishtar Park Sports Complex Gymnasium Hall on Saturday. Director Sports Muhammad Anees Sheikh said: “Sports Board Punjab has always given great significance to special athletes. Special athletes are an important part of our society. They already have won several medals in international sports competitions. We are really proud of their feats”.

Vice-chairman Pakistan Special Olympic Federation Anees-ur-Rehman expressed his gratitude to Punjab Minister for Sports Jahangir Khanzada and Secretary Sports Punjab Muhammad Aamir Jan for extending best sports facilities to special athletes. “The sports facilities provided by Sports Board Punjab for the holding of National Games for Special Children are of great significance,” he maintained.

With the continuous support of the government and appreciation, Pakistan will surely bag double the medals in 2021 Special Olympics. Their remarkable performance has made the country outshine globally. Kudos to all the athletes and their coaches who participated this year and a hearty CONGRATULATIONS  to all the winners.
